RAL Design colours
One of the main RAL colour sets beside RAL Classic, Plastic, Effect, Digital, is a RAL Design colour chart. This colour chart was introduced to RAL colour matching system in the year 1993. As it's name suggests, this chart has a dedicated purpose. These colours are made for designers, advertisers and architects. The original RAL Design colour panel has 1625 colours, but it was later improved while introducing additional 200 new colours, which made total of 1825 colour in this colour panel.
RAL Design colour chart utilizes 7 digit numbers as a key mark for each distinct colour. Design colour panel is based on CIELAB colour space. Digits are grouped in a triple and two pairs. representing HUE (main property of colour), lightness (tone) and Chroma (colour perceived). Example: RAL Design system colour DARK BLUE 270 30 20, 270 is a HUE, 30 is a lightness and 20 represent the Chroma.
